How to Enable Gmail Notifications When Receiving Faxes
If you are receiving faxes with Gmail, you know that these arrive automatically on your inbox without requiring you to do anything. But, how do you know if a new fax has arrived?
The most direct method is to enable mobile notifications on your phone. Many services will give you the option to send an SMS message when a fax arrives your account. But you can also do it from Gmail.
Incoming Gmail fax notifications can be shown on the desktop app and via Gmail’s mobile fax app.
Enabling Desktop Notifications on Gmail
- Log in to your Gmail account
- Click on the Settings button located on the top-right area of your screen, it’s the “Gear” icon.
- Click on Settings
- Select the General tab
- Find the option “Desktop Notifications”
- Click on “Click here to enable desktop notifications for Gmail”
- Check the option that says: New mail notifications on - Notify me when any new message arrives in my inbox or primary tab
- Click on Save changes.
Once notifications are in place, you will see them appear on the top-right corner of the screen, along with extra information like the sender and the subject of the message. And if you want to view the email fax just click on notification to open it.
Keep in mind that your Gmail account has to remain open for the notifications to work.
You can also activate notifications with browser extensions. Add-ons such as Gmail Notifier and Checker Plus for Gmail, let you customize your notifications, receive new ones from different Gmail accounts at the same time and they do this without requiring you to share your login information.
If you prefer to use your cell phone to read faxes, you can install Gmail’s mobile app and automatically receive sound/vibration notifications whenever a new email fax message arrives your account.
