What Are The Ways to Send a Free Fax Online?
Interested in sending a fax online but don’t want to spend money?
Today you can find different ways to fax online for free. Online fax services have been around for some years, and some of them have ways to send fax without spending a cent.
Here we’re going to take a look at the different ways you can do so, each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let’s get started!
Using an Email Fax Service
Email fax services let you send and receive faxes as email. These companies provide digital lines for fax transmission and are able to convert documents into fax images, retaining 100% compatibility with fax machines.
Now, if you’ve searched for a way to send a fax online, you may know these services charge you a small fee per month to send hundreds of pages. But what you may not know is that they also let you create a free trial account. This account is a basic plan that you can use for 30 days, which means it comes with all the features enabled.
This is the method that has most advantages. Online fax services not only have powerful and fast servers to send email to fax with Gmail online, they also give you a virtual fax number to receive faxes. Another benefit is that the faxes you send this way won’t contain ads in the header. In addition, most fax services are compatible with a big number of different file formats including PDF, JPG, XLS, DOC, PPS, TIFF and many more.
The only downside of this free method to send a fax is that you may need to enter your credit card info. I say “downside” because most people don’t feel comfortable adding their cards. However, This is a safe method to fax, services only ask you for your card to prevent abuse of their system. You won’t be charged anything unless you want to keep using the service after the 30 day trial period has ended. If not, you are free to cancel at anytime.
2. Free Fax Websites
In this category you can find sites such as FaxZero or GotFreeFax.com. They are technically online fax services too, but they only work through a web form.
This is a very simple way to fax online for free. You just go their page, enter all the fax details and press Send. These pages let you send a couple of files per day, which is enough if you only want to send the occasional fax.
If this sounds too good to be true, then maybe it is! Helpful as they are, these free pages have a lot of limitations.
Besides the daily file limit, there’s also a limited amount of files you can send. FaxZero, for example, only lets you send PDF, DOC and DOCX files. This means that if you have a spreadsheet or any other type of document you need to convert them to PDF before sending it. Now, converting a PDF is not just a matter of pressing a button. Although there are websites and programs that promise automatic conversions, the results are not always what you expect.
To send fax you must use the form. There’s no way to integrate these services with Gmail or other mail providers. And also, there’s no way to receive faxes online. If you just want to send a fax it’s OK, but to receive fax you need an online fax number.
But perhaps what’s worse bout using these pages is that they include a header banner with an ad for their service, or a cover page with ads. We wouldn’t recommend for any type of “serious” fax. Although some of them deliver fax confirmations, other just send the fax and you need to verify manually if the fax has reached its destination.
If you are using it for an occasional fax that doesn’t need advanced security, they are a great alternative though. Once you have used your free pages, you’ll need to pay per fax, something that can end up costing more than the monthly fee of a top fax service.
3. Free Mobile Fax Apps
If you prefer to fax on the go, you can use a free app from the Google Play or App Store. In many ways there are similar to free fax websites: you have a limited numbers of faxes/pages per day, and then you have to continue by paying per fax.
Again, this method has its limitations. Some services let you also receive faxes with a free number, but this number expires after 24 hours and if you want to keep it you need to start paying for it.
If faxing from a cell phone is your thing, then you are better off with the first option. Many online fax services have free mobile apps that you can us in conjunction with a free trial account.
If you just want to send a fax with no sensitive information, you can use a free mobile app or webpage (only with the compatible file formats). If you don’t plan to go over the page limit you’ll be fine. But if you are faxing important documents, you must use an online fax service, in this case, through a free trial. Email fax services are fast and 100% secure.
